A new level of parity?
Jul 05, 2008 - 8:04 AM - by TurfToe
We've seen a lot of curious moves made by teams during the off season which were necessitated by adherence to a cap that has teeth (granted the teeth may be a bit dull, but they're at least there). This meant a fair bit of roster juggling in one way or another - and those teams who didn't do that, will soon have to.

Now we're seeing some surprises early in the season. It's not quite the cake-walk we thought for some teams. Sure there's lots of season to go, but there are some interesting developments to be sure.

And this has got me wondering... are we on the cusp of realizing what the SMS could actually do for the league? That is to create a type of parity whereby it will be very difficult for any one team to maintain any sort of dominance for more than a couple of years. If so, I can't really complain because, realistically, that's the way it should be in an 8 team league.

I think that if we do end up seeing all the teams get 'leveled... [Read More]

4 weeks for the running game...
Jul 05, 2008 - 1:33 AM - by gizmo fan 2
The way I see it, we now have four weeks to develop a running game, if the Argos' pass D doesn't provoke us to make one up sooner than that.

I didn't see all of the BC/SSK game tonight - only the last seven minutes or so.

What I did see was Cates running all over the BC D (who appear to be no slouches) in those last minutes, repeatedly and effectively...if we can do that, here, on July 31, we stand a good chance at winning that game. And that game is an important one due to divisional implications and the fact that we have to play at BC the next week.

For those interested, our running numbers from Thurs were 10-51. Ray had 3 of those carries for 8 yds. Anderson was 5-12, and McCarty was 2-31 (draw plays). So we handed off exactly 7 times on about 54 offensive plays - just better than 1 in 8.

We handed off as follows:

1st quarter:

1st drive, 2nd and 4, our 40: Anderson no gain. Punt.

CFL.ca
Jul 04, 2008 - 10:38 PM - by gizmo fan 2
Anyone else having problems getting on to CFL.ca right now?

For the 2nd night in a row, I'm trying to get the stats (both for our game and for the fantasy draft) and all I'm getting is a "server error" message.

This is BS...shape up, league. Two nights (GAME nights) in a row? Come on, now.

I had hunch that Montreal would be better than people thought, but I didn't think they'd look this good out of the gate.....up 21-0 against the Bombers, Calvillo has 3 TDs and is 14/17.....for a guy who has never coached Canadian football before, Tresman is doing pretty well.
