$10 mil for one year? Can someone PLEASE explain to me why the NHL owners are crying about the current CBA and their inability to make money without a salary cap of some form, then the idiots in St. Louis go and sign Pronger to an insane deal like that?

If the Bettmen and the owners want a salary cap in the $32 mil range, that would mean Pronger would take up 1/3 of their team's payroll.

Does anyone know if the contracts like this INSANE one are void once a new CBA is signed? I'm shocked and confused. I would've thought the owners wouldn't be offering anything remotely that crazy, esp now.

Don't forget that St. Loo is one of (about) 6 teams that have consistently signed players to ludicrous contracts.

I wouldn't put much stock in this, per se.

I have a theory: NHL players should use some of their money to fund highly underpaid private tutors. Then, since the owners know that some of the players' money is going elsewhere, they declare their salaries as being lower. The players think they're getting all of their millionaire contract, and just assume that they lose the money in frivolous expenditures. That way, everybody's happy. :D

If the Blues didn't pay him that, the Rangers or another rich team would have but I agree there making ridicualus amounts.

i think the rangers are actually cutting back on thier salaries which is very good to see.
this signing was probably the only ludicrous one so far this season (as far as i can remeber). its nice to see...maybe all it takes to lower salaries is the threat of a lockout every season.

I'm surprised my Leafs did things pretty well... locked up Belfour, Nieuwendyk, & Roberts for reasonable sums as well....

.....not too worried, they have the same chance as any other team (and considering finances, likely a better shot than most any other Canadian team)......

I wouldn't be surprised to see Hasek play a dozen games, get an injury and retire again

but they won't go far with Prusek......

Prusek and Emery are both very skilled goalies, Emery might even beat out Prusek and hes still 21. Then Sen's won't be to bad this these guys. I can see Hasek playing 30-40 games but it probably wont happen.

Neither Emery or Prusek will take them past the first round of playoffs IMO.......Hasek doesn't have 30-40 left in him I don't think......

They may not, but who expected Kipper to lead Calgary to the finals? Or Gigeure the year before? Emery and Prusek have both proved they can win at this level, and Ottawas offence and defence are both improving.

I didn't see Giggy, but I was on the Kipper train early... picked him up in my fantasy league early and stuck with him. Posted on here I believe that he may be Vezina material as early as Febuary/March IIRC after he returned from his injury.

Prusek has shown some pretty good talent in goal.He can be pretty good one night, but awful the next...needs to work on his consistancy and bring a decent effort every game to be considered for a #1 spot IMO......
