CALGARY - The Calgary Flames have purchased a minority stake in the CFL's Stampeders.

The Flames involvement is equal to all other single-share participants in the CS Partnership, the Stamps operating company. It wasn't immediately clear how much the minority stake was worth.

California businessman Michael Feterik sold the club in January to a 12-member group that includes former Stampeders John Forzani and Dave Sapunjis, Internet businessman Ted Hellard and former CFL commissioner Doug Mitchell.

"We appreciate and respect the operating group that has taken the helm of the Stampeders," Ken King, the Flames president and CEO, said in a release Wednesday. "As a minority partner we are prepared to assist in any way they deem appropriate and will be seeking synergies that are mutually beneficial to both organizations."
Said Hellard: "The involvement of the Calgary Flames adds an important and consistent dimension to our long-term vision."

IMO the Stampeders have a more solid foundation in Calgary than the Flames do...good move by both corporations

Hmm, Hellard and Forzani running out of cash?!? I wonder how that could have happened... ;)

Probably a good move in the sense of establishing economies of scale when purchasing advertising, and probably wouldn't hurt with being able to shift employees around depending on need.
