Supposedly for a 5 year deal (though that is probably cap related maneuvering). However if they do sign him then either Ray or Bollinger will surely be sent packing. Perhaps not right away but maybe June 1st or at the end of camp. If Ray could actually get any real practice time with the 1st team he'd stick I am convinced.

How is this any different than last year though? Ray just might stick on the PR all year again...

True Angelus but what the Jets did last year was an exception to the rule as far as holding 4 QB's. Also I am not sure if Ray is eligble to go on the PR this year. they have rules that if you are on rosters for so many games one year you are not eligble to go on the PR next year. I'll ask about that on a Jets fan site.

Cool, let us know.

How about Maas/Jones/Ray as a QB tandem?

It's unlikely that Ray will be given any more of a chance this year than he was last season. If the Jets are pursuing experienced backups (Carter last year, now Fielder), then they clearly don't have Ray in their plans as anything more than a practice roster QB.

So, what if the Esks sign Khari, and then Ray becomes available part way through the season? Khari would be out of E-town faster than he exited Calgary. Might this affect his feelings about signing in Edmonton?

it could...but its hard to say if Ray will be back up here... I'd think there would be some teams in the NFL who will give him a look...

I can think of a team with a similar colour scheme to the Esks that should give him a look.

They are going to need a QB right away. With the Pack's o-line basically gone , I think Farve might get killed next year.

that's a big concern of mine.....it gets worse if we can't run block for Ahman....

As a Bears fan , I'm happy to see it. As a football fan , I'd hate to see a legend like Farve go out getting pummeled every week.

It's official. Fiedler is Pennington's backup.

NEW YORK (AP) - The Jets signed Jay Fiedler on Friday, hoping the quarterback can provide experience and depth behind Chad Pennington.

Fiedler, who will be entering his 10th season, visited the team at its Hempstead complex Thursday and the sides started negotiating. He received a five-year deal with $1.3 million US guaranteed, including a $500,000 signing bonus, said his agent, Brian Levy.

The move made sense for both sides: New York wanted someone with experience to back up Pennington; the 33-year-old Fiedler is closer to his home in Oceanside.

Pennington is recovering from off-season surgery on his right rotator cuff and the Jets had no intentions of bringing back Quincy Carter. Brooks Bollinger was the No. 3 quarterback last season, but is entering his third year in the league and needs more seasoning.

Well if RR decides to look for another opportunity in the NFL, try Dallas......like he should have from the start.
