ROME -- Italy is looking to beef up public coffers by taxing pornography.

The government is proposing a tax on porn and the issue is to be put to a confidence vote in parliament.

The package of measures includes a new, 25 per cent tax on the income of companies that make or sell pornographic material.

The government also wants to add an extra 10 per cent to the value-added tax paid on subscriptions to pornographic television channels.

The vote must be held in parliament within the next 24 hours.

You'd have had to pay for it in the first place...something tells me this won't work.

Reminds me of the hubbub around Canada Post's plan to issue a stamp commemorating 4000 years of prostitution.
$0.50 to buy one, but a $1.00 if you wanted to lick it.

In Holland, the gov't pays 5% when you over pay your taxes. Many people have discovered they can't get that interest rate from banks so they purposefully over pay their taxes, then collect a good interest rate from the gov't. Stupid governments.
