No, I meant the Direwolves. The White Walkers were cool too, the little glimpses you got of them anyway.

For anyone having trouble keeping up with all the characters and plotlines as they get introduced, it might be worthwhile to read the AVClub recaps after each episode. I just read the episode 1 review 30 seconds ago and I feel like I know more now than I did before I read it.

So I've had a chance to catch up on my PVR....okay, I admit, this is fantastic!

I haven't really had much of an issue at all so far figuring out the characters and how their pasts intertwine. Yeah, a little vague in some spots, but i'm sure they will develop even more as the story continues to play out.

Another HBO show set into my regular PVR settings.

I thought the third episode was pretty slow...but now that they've pretty much introduced all the main characters, it should pick up from here.

I dunno, I saw a lot more of the depth of treachery from almost every faction in the last episode that was not nearly as obvious in the first two. I took from that to be the prevailing theme moving forward.

Sean Bean is an absolute bad ass in this. Oh, and the blonde Targarian girl is smoking hot.

Cool, it's good to know that someone who hasn't read the books doesn't feel the show is moving to slow or that there is too much dialogue...that is a good sign.

Oh hell no. Most serialized dramas I've seen have a large story arc for the season, and each episode has a mini arc that the portagonist has to complete that may or may not tie in with the overall season storyline. Dexter is a perfect example of this. Each episode Dex has a bad guy to dispense of, and all of the episodes end up one larger storyline by seasons end.

Game of Thrones feels more like a novel than a standard dramatic TV series. There are no mini arcs, the episodes feel more like the chapters of a book. The first 3 episodes feel like they are putting the pieces in place and giving glimpses of the ties that bind everyone together. If the series goes anything like I think it will, the **** will start hitting the fan around episode 5-6 and won't stop until the end of the season.

Oh and am I the only one that sees the resemblance here?

There weren't as many beheadings or action scenes, but it started to develop some of the likeable characters more. The first few episodes set up the dislikeability of the Lannisters, but didn't explore the honor of some of the other characters enough (for someone that hasn't read the series, like my wife) for someone to really get behind. Ultimately, you need a good guy to root for, and it took until the third episode for the non-reader to really give the good guys some depth that warranted caring about them. The book, obviously, is different, as you have the omniscient power to know what they are thinking.

Peter Dinklage owns every scene that doesn't have Sean Bean in it.

He does certainly steal scenes. I also haven't figured out his character yet either...he seems to float maliciously between good and evil, enjoying any havoc that is created in either scenario.

I don't think he's either. I get the sense he doesn't like his family much, but he enjoys the kind of life his name affords him. He also seems to like toying with peoples expectations of him as a "broken thing". To me he comes off as a spoiled rich kid with a streak of decency.

This is yet another positive sign for the fantasy series, climbing in the numbers despite the show’s story pace lessening a bit the previous week. The show’s action kicks into high gear starting on Sunday’s fifth episode, which could result in Thrones gaining even more traction in the weeks to come, just like True Blood its first year.

Dang it but if today's "hottie of the day" doesn't look a lot like Daenerys.

It's fine for the point the TV series is at right now, but is factually incorrect regarding who some of the children belong to, and missing some of the King's *******s.

    Damn this show is good!

Unfortunately in my quest for more info, I ran upon the plot synopsis of the books.....and I am unable to fathom how this show will continue to hold when my favorite character who steals every scene is no longer in play.

Certainly not the way I figured it would play out......

    I won't say anything more.....but it's disappointing.....know what I mean?

I've never had an issue with knowing in advance that sort of stuff anyway, sometimes it makes you pay more attention to how they get there. So it's still not spoiled (for myself anyway).....that, and I knew anyone who read the novel would know who/what I am talking about, but neophytes like myself shouldn't.

Well, now that this thread has been bumped again, I will share some more of my thoughts. The last three episodes have been spectacular and I think the show is starting to hit its stride. I loved what they did with Ned & Jamie's fight (ouch, poor Jory), the death of Viserys (enjoy your crown), Khal Drogo's amazing speech, and Littlefinger's betrayal of Ned. All these scenes were exceptional and exactly how I imagined they would go down.

On a negative note, where are the direwolves? And the softcore porn scene was pretty unnecessary.

Enjoyed the softcore porn backdrop for Littlefinger's diatribe. Foreshadowed the fact he would betray Ned...

    and just for funzies....

Thanks for getting me hooked on this Ang.......

Yeah, I never thought I'd watch 2 gorgeous girls finger blasting each other and think "is this really necessary?"

Other than that one mis-step, the series as a whole has been amazing so far. If they can keep this up for 4 or 5 seasons, this might end up one of the greatest TV series ever.

The show has lived up to the hype....
Opus you should read the books....the fifth one comes out at the end of next month....can't wait.
As for characters not in play it is something you get use to as no one is safe which to me is more exciting than the standard fantasy story arc of farm boy saves the world.
