Attention 2013 Season - Official Transactions Thread

I hit them as hard as I could on the mouth right from the start of the game so they were thinking this was going to be a long day. Sooner or later one of us had to quit. And it wasn't going to be me.

Re: Esks sign NI LB Joash Gesse

I figured it wouldn't take long for someone to jump at Gesse. He's been a good special teams player but hasn't played any defence to speak of in his 3 years in BC due to being buried deep in the LB depth chart. Shouldn't hurt you guys a bit.

With Sharun still sidelined perhaps they want another impact guy, especially if Miller lines up at safety on sat?

And who do you bring in this late? A lot of the good guys may be picked up already.

Disappointing. So help me god if Burnett goes down with an injury while returning a kick...

Perhaps you could get TJ back on the cheap. Offers a degree of flexibility being able to backup at DB.

This has certainly crossed my mind. Did he not have an injury last year though which potentially has slowed him down...it seems to ring a bell but can't find anything on the net about it...

Sweeney is a logical choice except he apparently wasn't fielding the kicks very well...

    Sorry, guys...

I was thinking that it's tougher for players to come in this late with no TC/preseason time left...and I completely forgot about players like Marcus Howard, who arrived midway through 2011 and fit right in.

This is the result of my being a frazzled fan who's panicking about the KR position... I trust we'll find someone.

Re: 2013 Season - Official Transactions Thread

When a team sets a roster, provided they aren't a team that stocks their roster by offering kickbacks to agents who get their players jobs, they also set a go-to list at each position. This identifies scouted players they may not have had room to invite to camp, some may have attended mini camp, and others may be in NFL systems. When you have a guy go down or a guy who under-performs, you start working your go-to list. I'd anticipate they are doing so at the KR position right now. Keep in mind this is the same manner in which Marcus Howard came here. He was on our radar for close to 2 years before coming up

So while we've gotten conditioned to the stash and spend trends around here as a faux safety blanket, (how many of those extra bodies contributed anything last year again?), it's easy for people to freak out a bit, and media to take backhanded swipes. But we don't know what's in the pipeline and why the current regime feels very comfortable when they make a move. Knowing a little of how the bossman thinks, and approaches his roster, there is no sky-is-falling mentality going on, and things are well laid out and organized. As told to me by an igloo dweller, "Our worst day this year is miles ahead of our best day over the past 2 years"

its not about stashing the extra bodies.. i`ve seen the ticats roster.. it emulates ours from last year.. 1 game, 9 game full of guys..

u just want to see guys who u KNOW can compete or u believed they would compete being kept.. tavoy had a genuine injury..
i would have liked to have seen him kept around

The problem is it was the day before cutdown day. So you'd be forced to cut another healthy body you've yet to make a decision on. They took a gamble and right now it didn't pay off, that doesn't mean there isn't another what's-his-name out there

The good news about being forced to make tough decisions on cuts, is that it speaks well for the calibre of guys they have
