Some interesting action so far. Chelsey Carey just barely escaped her game vs PEI just now...scored 3 in the 9th to go up 7-4, but allowed PEI to score 3 in the 10th. Then Chelsey drew to the button to win in an extra end.

Never seen a meltdown as bad as Chelsea Carey right now at the Scotties. Have had the hammer the entire game...and after six ends, are down 7-0 to Northern Ontario. All seven points stolen.

    She's done.

Koe vs Gushue in what should be an epic Brier final today! Cheering for Koe for sure, but won't be heartbroken if Gushue wins and gives the hometown crowd a fitting end to the party.

Great story on Surrey's Claire Eccles becoming the first female player in the collegiate West Coast League pitching for Victoria's Harbour Cats

    Holy smokes!

Dennis Shapovalov, the 18 year old from Toronto ranked 130th or 140th in the world, just won over Rafa Nadal in a 3rd set tiebreak at the Rogers Cup.

He's expected to do well in the future, but this is beyond current expectations. He was a really good junior player (won Wimbledon a couple years ago) but has only been on the ATP tour for a year.

Speaking of Tennis, I had no idea there was Davis Cup World Group Playoff matches coming to Edmonton September 15-17. Reasonably priced tickets too

Yeah, should get some good traction with what Shapovalov did this past week.

Sounds like it was a powerplay by Herdman. Seems odd he'd have any leverage when one way or another he was leaving the role you wanted him in... but being the CSA, who the hell knows what their rational was, that bunch makes the CFL BOG look like a well oiled machine.

I can get Herdman wanting a new challenge, there wasn't much left for him to accomplish in women's soccer. Short of winning a World Cup, and I don't think we have enough to get us over that bump.

I like the guy, but I wouldn't have given him the keys to the entire men's program when he has no experience coaching men. I would have maybe gave him a chance to be technical director and oversee the development and see how that went... but they made him coach too.

I guess we'll find out. My initial reaction though was this was bad news for both the men and the women.
Look. We can go round and round about this all the live long day. Let's keep it simple. I embody amazement. Can you dig on that? Good. Then meet me on the corner of rock and roll, and bring a flask of something that burns.

    Re: Canadian Sport/Athletes

If you’re into tennis, tonight is a big night for Canadian tennis.

Milos Raonic (aka the present) is playing Felix Auger-Aliassime (aka the future) at the BNP Paribas Open (aka the unofficial 5th grand slam). Felix just won his very 1st ATP “grown up” ATP match in Friday in the 1st round ( vs fellow Canadian Vasek Pospisil).

Anyway, it starts at 8pm MDT, so you can watch the beginning during commercials of the Brier final....and hopefully Felix lasts long enough that it’s still going on after the Brier final is over.

    Addendum:

Sorry, it started at 7pm. My Sunday brain cannot handle the combo of ‘spring forward’ and time zone conversions.

Pretty excited about the brier tonight! Young Bottcher and his team have stolen (29 points this week!) their way to the final tonight without a coach! Bottcher himself is one hell of a shot maker and looks to me to be the future of Alberta curling. The game tonight against Gushue is gonna be a tough one!

It was a tough one. Just couldn't put Gushue in many high pressure situations. Botcher was able to force them to make a great draw to the button which they made.

Brooke Henderson just won this weeks LPGA tournament, in Hawaii.

It’s her 6th win. She’s 20. Amazing career so far.

    Late post:
Dennis Shapovalov defeated Milos Raonic yesterday at the Madrid Open. 6-4,6-4
One of the major tune up tournaments for the French Open.

Today Shapo defeated Kyle Edmund (UK) in 3 sets & will play Sasha Zverev in the semis tomorrow.

So now Shapo will have a higher ATP ranking than Milos, who has really struggled with injuries the last couple of years.

A passing of the torch for Canadian men’s tennis? Possibly, but Milos is still getting back to game shape AND clay is not his best playing surface.

BUT how cool is it that there are elite tennis players from Canada?!? And with Felix entering the picture, it’s super exciting

I just saw the Canadians beat the Americans at the Hlinka-Gretzky tournament in OT...

...Canada tied the game up at 20:01 of the third period

Apparently the refs are not permitted to use video replay!

Dylan Cozens of my hometown Lethbridge Hurricanes with the dubious tying goal. He’s always been very clutch for the Canes. I kinda feel bad for him scoring such a controversial goal.

    Re: Canadian Sport/Athletes

Brooke Henderson has ended Canada’s 45-year drought at the CP Women’s Open.

On Sunday, Henderson — from Smiths Falls, Ont. — won the tournament at the Wascana Country Club.

“The crowds have been amazing here and to finish it off like I did is a dream come true,” a champagne-soaked Henderson told the Golf Channel as the crowd, exhorted by Canadian golfing legend Lorie Kane, sang “O Canada.”

Henderson became only the second Canadian to win the event. Jocelyne Bourassa of Shawinigan, Que., captured the title in 1973 — the year of the inaugural Open — at the Montreal Municipal Golf Course.

On a rainy Sunday in Regina, Henderson shot a round of 7-under-par to finish 21-under at the first LPGA event to be held in Saskatchewan
