"No dress rehearsal, this is our life" - Gord Downie
How has AOC proven she's an idiot? I mean...when you're comparing her to most other politicians I've heard speak she seems pretty on the ball. Asking the quesitons that nobody else does and rocking the boat a bit. I don't think she's quite ready to be president but if she runs she'll have more experience than the current moron in office.
Well, gentlemen, by all means, I think we ought to have an introspective moment of silence for poor old Tin-Tin.
Radically Canadian!
She's an articulate, outspoken, intelligent, educated, Latino, female, Democratic member of Congress who challenges the way the political process runs. There are people don't like some of that (and some that don't like all of that). I think politics needs a lot more like her.
"No dress rehearsal, this is our life" - Gord Downie
Yes, she's an idiot.
“Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs,”
“Unemployment is low because people are working 60, 70, 80 hours a week and can barely feed their kids.”
"When this country started, we were not a capitalist [nation], we did not operate on a capitalist economy. "
When asked in an interview with Jorge Ramos last week about how to pay for Sen. Bernie Sanders’, I-V.T., “Medicare for All” proposal, which Ocasio-Cortez has put at the center of her campaign, Ocasio-Cortez responded, “You just pay for it.”
"What we had was an existential threat in the context of a war. We had a direct existential threat with another nation, this time it was Nazi Germany, and the Axis, who explicitly made the United States as an enemy, as an enemy. And what we did was that we chose to mobilize our entire economy and industrialized our entire economy and we put hundreds if not millions of people to work in defending our shores and defending this country. We have to do the same thing in order to get us to 100 percent renewable energy, and that’s just the truth of it."
Here is an exchange between AOC and CNN's Anderson Cooper:
Cooper: One of the criticisms of you is that— that your math is fuzzy. The Washington Post recently awarded you four Pinocchios—
Ocasio-Cortez: Oh my goodness—
Cooper: —for misstating some statistics about Pentagon spending?
Ocasio-Cortez: If people want to really blow up one figure here or one word there, I would argue that they're missing the forest for the trees. I think that there's a lot of people more concerned about being precisely, factually, and semantically correct than about being morally right.
Cooper: But being factually correct is important—
Ocasio-Cortez: It's absolutely important. And whenever I make a mistake. I say, "OK, this was clumsy." and then I restate what my point was. But it's— it's not the same thing as— as the President lying about immigrants. It's not the same thing, at all.
I mean I could go on and on and on. She's basically the left's Trump. In fact, if AOC and Trump were on the ballot, I would have to seriously consider voting for Trump. While I despise them both, I fear the far left in the US far more than the far right.
"Of all the so-called virtues, the most over-rated is faith" - Christopher Hitchens
If her math is fuzzy...then the rest of the governments calculators are absolutely furry!
You can (and usually do) go on and on about how much you don't like her. I still think she's someone that scares a lot of people in Washington because she's shedding light on things that the average person probably has no clue about. She pushes the boundaries. Call me crazy or stupid or an idiot but I prefer politicians who do what they say and while she may have a hidden agenda - she still seems more trustworthy than anyone in Trump's corner. How much healthcare etc. could be paid for if Captain Combover didn't go golfing every weekend or have tank parades? Donny is serving himself first and the American people second. I understand there's nothing I could do or say to change your mind but the idea of not being able to choose between Trump and AOC is absolutely frightening. In my opinion they'd be better off finding some homeless guy talking to a tree to run the country than that egomaniacal windbag. But what do I know? I don't use big obscure words...
Well, gentlemen, by all means, I think we ought to have an introspective moment of silence for poor old Tin-Tin.
She's just another anti-capitalist spewing the same old drivel that capitalism is bad. But of course let's be sure to overlook the murderous thugs in places like Venezuela.
Want 4 more years of Drumpf? Put her front and centre.

I started this thread as a joke which soon turned sour. Reading the last few pages I see the Trump agenda being fulfilled by the name calling and bickering in some of the posts. Divide and conquer is the Trump agenda, We don't need to see this here. I think most of us here are in agreement about Trump but may differ in how to get him out. Please respect other viewpoints except for chicken puppy.
WALTER IS MY HERO!!
With all the respect in the world, Piz....this is the political discussion of our age. If those of us in the relative centre can't take back the focus.....well...hell. I don't know what's next. We have to talk, argue, and debate it out. Only then will the necessary consensus to defeat the evils (yes...evils, not evil) that threaten us from within and without be defeated. It will get heated. It will cross some lines. But we have to come to an understanding about the basics again. Liberals. Conservatives. Or we are right and truly ***ked. For a hundred years.

She's Hugo Chavez transplanted a couple of thousand miles north. She's a wild-eyed pinko who'd be out to spend the U.S. into submission. She's a fascist whose agenda is fundamentally at odds with the American populace's right to choose.
So does every single foreign enemy of the U.S.

Absolutely. We may not agree on Trump. But AOC is as big a threat to freedom and democracy.
For me, the foundation of our political debate, once you agree upon the rules for a democracy, is the level to which the government is involved in the regulation of human affairs. It takes, as its starting point, that capitalism will be the base, and that a certain level of socialism will be the the associate companion. The levels to which those interact, or compliment each other, is the argument.
AOC has stated that the capitalism part of that equation should not be there.
History shows us the results. It's not good.
The big issue with Trump is that he does not believe in the rules for democracy stated earlier. Honestly, in the end, AOC types never do either.

I'd certainly like to see Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's elementary and secondary school transcripts. I'm guessing she never did very well in any subject involving the use of numbers. Just another one of these girls who like to describe themselves as a "people person as opposed to a numbers person".
She'd be the one candidate who might be able to "solve" the illegal immigration into the States problem though. Once she bankrupted the country, no semi-rational person would want to come there. Ergo the detention centres would be empty and could be closed.

So you started a politically charged thread and expected it to remain good-natured. What was your nickname in school, "Brains"?
Trump agenda, eh? Hardly the words of a dispassionate observer. Somehow though you didn't foresee that your own less than neutral attitude could/would spark this thread's quick descent into acrimony.

Does Trump use teleprompters? IF he does, who the f*ck is writing and checking his speeches for him? Or does he just go off script because nobody's telling the Donald what to do or say...

Using the term 'the Don' to describe Donald Trump seems disrespectful on a CFL fan form.
Hmmmmm.

Twould be prudent methinks for Trump to read over what he's supposed to say beforehand....
Oh well. The United States is the country where many "students" who can neither tell Manitoba from Madagascar, Budapest from Bucharest, Atlanta from Tbilisi, nor even read at all, graduate from their best known "colleges". Just another piece of evidence that literacy tests should be a requirement for not only voters but the candidates for political office themselves. "Now Mr. Senator, when was the battle of Adrianople fought and between which two armies?" Be interesting to read some of the answers.

Trying to control, manage or coach Donald Trump would likely be impossible. And those who have worked for him while he's been President have said as much. A constant tirade.
"Of all the so-called virtues, the most over-rated is faith" - Christopher Hitchens
Let's see....
1. For one thing Ocasio-Cortez's comments reveal her fundamental ignorance of economics and how wealth is created. The production of renewable energy would have absolutely exploded long ago, were it economic and had there been a market for it. That's the way the Invisible Hand works. On the other hand forcing the production of what's uneconomic wastes scarce economic resources and leads to the impoverishment of a country.
2. She reveals the extent of her moral bankruptcy when she says that she would employ the same methods that were used to fight WWII to get to "100 percent renewable energy". Wars are all about force, and the only moral justification for the use of force is to defend oneself against the use of force. Defending its citizenry from force is actually the only underlying moral justification for the existence of government. Government force should not be employed to advance some political agenda. That's wrong. Yet Ocasio-Cortez would cavalierly do so "for your own good" because she of course knows better what's good for you.
3. Now it's been revealed that she lives in luxury dwellings in both New York and Washington because heaven forbid that she actually live among the people she ostensibly represents. I mean those places aren't "safe" because the people living in those places are scary! You can't expect an important politician such as herself to rub shoulders with those she represents (or at least claims to represent), can you?
Putting that aside though, I wonder how often she's walked or traveled by horse-and-buggy between Washington and New York instead of flying by non-decidedly renewable energy powered jet planes? How many times has she even traveled by Amtrak or on the dog between Washington and New York? And how often does she walk or even take public transit from her apartment to the Capitol as opposed to being driven? Or wouldn't taking transit be "safe" for such an important politician as herself? It seems she prescribes one nostrum for the people of America, but heaven forbid that the "important" people such as herself have to abide by such a nostrum. Hypocrisy at its worst.
Look up "limousine liberal" in the dictionary. You'll find that Ocasio-Cortez's picture has been the most recent addition.
