She only worked for Democratic administrations, and she chose precisely now to release her book. More than a bit partisan, don't you think?

Well, yeah, but I very clearly meant since WWII ended.

There are two very good ways to measure the size of governments:

    1. Government budget (spending plus transfer payments) as a percentage of GDP.
    2. Regulatory burden. The crudest measurement of the size of the regulatory burden might very well be the best, that being the total number of words in the laws passed by the legislatures. Rarely if ever do legislatures repeal old laws; they just seem to keep adding new ones.

I guess they finally saw the light after over three years. What I don't understand is why they would have been visiting this partisan Democratic Party circle jerk in the first place.

It has baffled me as to why folks on this site ought to be advised to put truly disruptive, consistently offensive, members on "ignore".
What I find confusing, is why people who are regularly demeaning and insulting others, are allowed to remain members.

I do trust that the Mods know best, though.

As for posting on this Trump thread, reading the above, I'll definitely be posting again.
If Trump has taught us nothing else, it is that we all need to stand up.

Would this be precisely the subgroup of individuals who have the temerity to disagree with you in this thread?

All the while hoping not to read even a word of disagreement. Can't have any diversity of views, can we?

He's taught me that I'll have to continue to wait for the politician bold enough to actually go through with promises to "drain the swamp". That's about it though.

Huh?! Stand up for what? Being a sore loser when your candidate loses on election night? Rioting in the streets the next day? Or just kvetching ad nauseam until the next election when the cycle repeats itself?

And who's "we"? I find it not just strange but bizarre that we here in Canada would join in the kvetching. For the love of the gods, he's just another politician who spends other people's money and he's a Yank to boot! Obsessing about Trump is right down there in my book with following the NFL.

Trolls gonna troll... Just the way it is. Some guys are just naturally antagonistic and don't even realize it while others purposely pop out of the woodwork with the sole intention of stirring up sh!t...
Trump has taught the world something for sure. That complete morons can ascend to positions of power with no qualifications or abilities as long as they're white, rich, racist men with rich parents or trust funds and able to take directions from a foreign government... Growing up you always heard "anyone can be president" on tv and in books etc. and Trump is proof. It's sad really. As Canadians we SHOULD be involved in and have some concerns about the POTUS...they're our Southern neighbors and a lot of our economy depends on their economy. I know there's not a lot we can do about it since we can't vote, but there ARE some Americans on the site and a lot of us know people down there, either family, friends coworkers, what have you so we are concerned about them.

That right there is both a racist and sexist comment. Yet somehow you don't have sense enough to grasp so simple a fact.

Re: Trump wins the President of the United States Election

I believe Trump is a con-man. I don't think he's a racist because that would require an ethos. His only belief is in his own enrichment and power. He will do anything, say anything to achieve what he wants. He doesn't care about race. But he will say racist things or enact racist policies if that pleases his base and solidifies his power.

I don't believe that anyone truly likes Trump either. Those Trump supporters you know fall into 5 categories:

    1. Troll. They know he's bad, but get off on winding you up.
    2. Evangelical. They think Trump is a scuzzball, but he's gotten them 2 supreme court justices and can now have wet dreams over finally being able to overturn Roe v. Wade.
    3. Xenophobe. They want the wall built. They want the Muslim ban.
    4. Wealthy. He got the rich a huge tax cut. They love that.
    5. Brainwashed. They get ALL of their news from Fox News and Brietbart and consider anything else "Fake News". They truly believe what they are fed from those disinformation outlets.

I hadn't thought about it that way but it makes sense. He's essentially a yes man saying whatever he thinks he needs to say to get the crowd going.
As far as me saying racist and sexist things about Trump (not 100% sure if you're calling me racist or sexist or just what I said so)...explain to me how that's the case but please use words that a simple guy like me can understand. I'm just saying there are a lot of rich white men in America that like having a guy like Trump (rich white guy) in power because he's going to look after himself and his cronies first and the rest of the American people last. Do you honestly think Trump and the billionaire club give two sh!ts about people living on minimum wage? Or people that can't afford basic health care? Or FOOD and SHELTER for that matter? Of course they don't. They've never had to actually go from paycheck to paycheck in their privileged lives and are completely out of touch with 99% of the population.

How about those so fed up with the hysteria emanating from the Democrat side since election night that they would now like to see Donald Trump win again in 2020 just so the Democrats get exactly what they have so assiduously worked to deserve, that being four more years of Trump in 2020?

Now being a Libertarian I'm never enamoured of free-spending politicians of any stripe. But you have to realize that the anti-Trump hysteria emanating from the Democrats is a quantum leap above anything we've seen before and simply entrenches support for the other side.

Do you actually talk like that in real life? Enamoured? Assiduously? Dude...put the f*cking thesaurus down and quit trying to impress everyone. It's like you're padding a university paper or trying to talk fancy to humiliate someone in front of some girls at a bar or something.foxhound.jpg

I'm not one to come to the defense of Foxhound, well, ever... but I don't think he's trying to impress people. The language he uses was more common back in his (and my) day. I have to admit I used both those words in the last week, without thinking about it.

The alternative is for us older folks to start using teenaged speak... and that ain't going to go well, bruh

Mate, as a guy who is sick of being told how evil I am for being white and male, I get it. But in this case the cure is worse than the disease. I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face just to stick it to a bunch of wacky intersectional feminists.

No thoughtful person should be okay with reckless spending politicians. Even folks like me who are by no means libertarian. (And I'm not simply because you can work hard and lose your job anyway...you can live a healthy lifestyle and still get cancer)

Boy! You should see some of the papers I wrote back in the early 1970's at university. I can't understand them today myself (partially due to the subject matter I suppose).

You know I've tried, I've really tried to make my writing punchier and less "scholarly" ever since I started posting on the web in the early part of this century. I've succeeded insofar as my sentences are shorter, and my paragraphs shorter yet. But I still have a ways to go.

Incidentally, I've known since about 1980 that many major magazines utilize a program called the "fog index". It penalizes for word length, sentence length and paragraph length. A score above a certain level prompts the Editor to toss the submission back in the face of the writer with the curt instruction "Simplify it!".

Oh groan! You know that falls into the category that the news outlets with which I agree are "reputable". The ones with which I disagree are "tabloids" and "rags".

Oh, and incidentally I understand that FOX News has been cleaning up in the ratings battle.

Which do I watch? None. I haven't had a working TV since 1992. I decided to wait until they "perfected" the technology but now I'm disinclined to say the least to pay their egregious monthly cable bills. Screw that!

    This summarizes it nicely.

Trump can't be racist. He has said he is the least racist person probably ever. He is also the least anti-Semitic. And no one respects women more than he does. He said so himself.

You can't judge people by their actions or eyewitness accounts. The only thing that really matters is what they claim to be.

    Accurate nonetheless.

Interesting too that there are TV sets hanging from the ceiling around the office typically tuned to CNBC. While to me they're just a distraction and I do my best to tune out the talking heads, I have found that overall they tend to be neutral or even mildly positive toward Donald Trump. The commentators all seem to be bottom-line oriented to whatever the market is doing today.

As a result it's major culture shock time for me when I see threads like this.

Just now finished reading a truly interesting book. I had been reluctant to read it, feeling that it would invariably contain excuses, blaming, justifications and revisionism. Undoubtedly, there was some of that – but far less than I expected.
Overall a very enlightening read. It houses unexpected chapters providing thorough explanations, tons of background information, personal reflections and deep insights into the Author’s values and character. It is a totally unique perspective on the 2016 election and its initial aftermath. I’d highly recommend it to anyone hoping to enrich their mind, and spirit.

You (meaning the government) can't investigate a private citizen, you can only investigate crimes. I would never support an investigation against someone I don't like without evidence of a crime. Especially an investigation involving foreign intelligence agencies. This should be deeply concerning, but all you seem to care about is your personal feelings for Trump.

Well, then you'll be happy to know that the Special Counsel isn't investigating Trump. He's investigating Russian interference into the 2016 election. The evidence has LED him to Trump's campaign. The man, personally, isn't under investigation.

There is no predicate crime. The fbi and the doj violated the fourth amendment. The fbi hasn't even inspected the dnc servers for evidence of hacking. Like I said, the entire investigation is predicated on the Steele dossier.

The claim of Russian involvement in the election came from the Director of National Intelligence's office in January 2017. You can read that report here.

Mueller was appointed in May of that year after the firing of James Comey.

None of the sources are credible, there is no evidence of collusion. That is why the fbi is shifting the goal post to obstruction.

Impeaching Trump just isn't worth it. Weird change in tactic. It's almost like she knows something and is trying to prepare everyone for some sort of extremely predictable disappointment.
