    Re: Eskimo Empire podcast

A new podcast up. Nice to see Kayla back, she interacts so well with Andrew & Mike. Love the humor they bring to the show. Good info about the free agency additions and subtractions. Nice to hear the length of the new contracts the new players signed, I'd missed that on some of the signings.

Bud Steen was the guest. Interesting about the chips the AAFL puts in their footballs possibly being the beginning of technology that might eventually replace game day officials. He had interesting ideas about targeting and possibly the carding of offenders in future rule changes. Nice to hear the officials are extremely concerned with player safety.

Listening to the Esk podcasts brings back the memories of my Dad and I listening to football games on the radio in 1954 . Wonderful memories.

That can come out after wax cylinder.

Just a heads up that we just released a "Spepisode" (who doesn't love a good Portmanteau??) 10 min ago featuring a 25 min interview with new QB Trevor Harris. Give it a listen and tell us what you think!

Also just set up our Podcast to be available on Spotify, if that is your preferred source. Give it a try!

    Re: Eskimo Empire podcast

Great job on the interview with Trevor! He's a down to earth guy and I really appreciate that he is a student of leadership and looking to develop and round out his skills that way through his career. There are some that lead quietly, by example, and there are others that are vocal and outgoing in their style. He has, I believe, really broadened his leadership style to be able to have aspects of both, as well as just presence - that element you sense in people that just engenders trust.

Interesting to hear him talk about learning from his teammates, and specifically from those that see and think the game the same way as he does, such as Will Arndt and Danny O'Brien. It is all-too-often overlooked that the backup QBs play so many roles, and supporting the success and development of the starter is one of the key ones. Given the relationship that Ray and Maas had, I have to think that our HC is going to be highly attuned to that side of things.

Actually it’s probably not enough F-bombs. Give the people what they want, I say!

    Re: Eskimo Empire podcast

Noticing no one has mentioned a new podcast is out. So, here goes. Full crew on tap for this one , no one on the practice roster. Good info from Andrew on the combine workouts.
Mentioned who he thought stood out and who we might be looking at. Really interesting.

Guest is AJ Gass. An interview that is a must for any Esk fan. He is happy to be back in Edmonton and back with Jason. For such a serious player he sure has an outstanding sense of humor.
    Explains the infamous helmet throw.

Another great history segment. About the transition from a seven man D line to six, then five , and to the 4-3 D. And our history of having outstanding MLB's. Ecuyer, Griffen, Britts, Kepley, Bass, Pless, Gass , Sherritt.

Everyone on the crew had interesting thoughts of the proposed ratio changes.

    Another great Episode!!!!

Ryan's comments about Larry Dean led me to do a little research. I took a look at the top 5 tacklers in the league and compared their tackles to the amount of running and passing plays their defence faced and came up with the following:

Alex singleton played 18 games had 123 tackles, against 948 defensive plays or he had a tackle in 12.9% of the teams defensive plays.
Larry Dean played 18 games had 105 tackles, against 906 defensive plays or he had a tackle in 11.5% of the teams defensive plays.
JC Sherritt played 18 games had 100 tackles, against 890 defensive plays or he had a tackle in 11.2% of the teams defensive plays.
Adam Bighill played 18 games had 105 tackles, against 984 defensive plays or he had a tackle in 10.7% of the teams defensive plays.
Muamba played 18 games had 108 tackles, against 1,062 defensive plays or he had a tackle in 10.2% of the teams defensive plays.

The dude has had his fill of the Red koolaid, or was just trying to bait the opposing fan base.

His assertion that the Esks losses outweigh the gains (fully possible) but that the Stamps losses will all be offset by keeping Bo in house are absurd.

On the offensive side of the ball alone, the Stamps lost Davaris Daniels, Chris Matthews, Marken Michel, Lemar Durant, Randy Richards and Spencer Wilson. Yes, their receiving corps was deep due to injuries, but any way you slice it that is at least two starting receivers and an OL starter... without any real proven guys being brought in to replace them. It's fine to trust in Huf to replace them, but even with his track record, that comes with risk. On the defensive side, they lose their DC - arguably one of the best in the business currently, as well as what he termed 2 of the top-5 defensive players in Singleton and Johnson. Add in the loss of Adeleke, Emanuel Davis, Ja'Gared Davis, Ciante Evans, Maleki Harris, Patrick Levels, Deron Mayo, Jameer Thurman and James Vaughters - they're turning over half their starters and losing a ton of their identity. But I'm sure that they'll be able to score at will against opponents, to make it not matter that their defence was gutted.

QBs and Canadian talent are crucial in this league for sure... but this off-season has been far more than a flesh wound. (Neep! Neep!)

There was some of his comments that were intended to stir the pot, as he does pick Calgary to go 18-0 EVERY YEAR, but I think he really believes we are going to take a serious step back this year. Guess there is only one way to prove him wrong

So come on down to the Tailgate outside Gate 6 before the game, and grab yourself a bag, talk some football, and (weather permitting) watch a classic game on the big screen - HINT: might involve the guy being celebrated for his career in Edmonton later that day.
