This is going to be an..."interesting" Olympics on a bunch of levels.

I especially can't wait to watch Canada get dominated in hockey...

My interest in the Olympics waned significantly when Gary Bettman pulled out the NHL Players. Sorry but not sorry.

It's all good. If the hockey tournament is all that interests you, so be it.

Personally, I'm actually happy the NHL is out... will give the spotlight to the rest of our athletes in the myriad of other sports.

I completely respect your point of view. The showcase of amateur athletes should have never let professionals play.

There really weren't many amateurs involved even when that's what it was purported... some pros are just much better compensated than others

The problem with the "pros out" point of view is that it doesn't take into account that in most Olympic sports the highest level IS amateur. Take figure skating. Turning "pro" means the Ice Capades.

The NHL absolutely should be in. It actually keeps it uniform with most other Olympic sports.

I don't think there are any amateur requirements anymore. Most were done away with in the 70's. Boxing was the last holdout, but pros were allowed there in 2016 too.

Ultimately the only reason pros won't suit up for their countries in hockey is because Gary Bettman is the only person on the planet more greedy than a guy like Sepp Blatter.

Certainly not compelling in any way. But that was true before the Sovie...er...Russian ban.

    Re: 2018 Winter Olympics

The roar of the rings curling Olympic trials wrap up today. This is always my favorite bonspeil to watch as there can be more than one team from any given province. Best against the best and it’s been a fun week to watch again. My gut is telling me that nobody in the world will stop Rachel Homan’s team today. Even though Carey’s team beat them in the first draw, I view Homan’s team as the best in the world right now and a big hometown crowd will be behind them.

As for McEwen and Koe, I definitely think it’s Koe’s year. One of the best in the world for sure and I think experience at big events will play in his favour. Should probably call it a coin flip as that’s how I’d feel if it was Gushue in today’s final, and McEwen curled a hell of a game to beat him last night.

Going to be a fun day of curling!

Curling's become my second-favourite sport recently. Go Alberta! (Carey and Koe)

And it is indeed Homan and Koe representing Canada. Was a fun day of curling and wow, the precision of these athletes is unreal. Up to the 5th end tonight Mike McEwen was individually curling 100% and yet they were still behind! Good luck to our two teams that both seem to be comprised of great people!

Ted-Jan Bloeman just broke a decade old world record in speed skating, men's 5000m. He's probably one of our best hopes for a multi-medalist between the 5000, the 10000 and the team pursuit. He's the only one in the world even approaching Dutch superstar Sven Kramer in the 5000 and 10000.
