    NHL 2018-19 Oilers Season Thread

I guess with camp opening this week, it's time for a fresh thread. Hopefully the Oilers aren't out of the playoffs until at least after the first snowfall this year.

    *checks the forecast for tomorrow*

    Crap.

Sekera injured again. Nurse without a contract and less than $4M in cap space. Where do I sign up to play D for the Oilers? Somebody has to.

It could possibly snow this week so that should help them with that.

They're going to be bad again this year. Don't believe otherwise until you see evidence of success on the ice.

The suggestion that last year was an off year after the year before and they'll rebound is setting us up for more failure. When you've finished near the bottom in 11 out of 12 years, the one year that you made the playoffs is the anomaly, not the other way around.

They weren't as good as 2 years ago. They weren't as bad as they were last year. 95 points and make the playoffs in the final wildcard spot.

Bounce back years from Klefbom, Talbot, and slightly better secondary scoring the difference. I also expect them to make a big move come deadline time...

For me, fatigue is settling in. After this many years, I just don't know how much energy it's worth to invest in following a team that has repeatedly demonstrated that it isn't worth following.

I'm posting this mostly so that they can prove me wrong

As an aside....anything happens to Talbot, #97, Draisaitl, or Klefbom/Larsson...and we are back to a bottom 5 team.

With what cap space? Unless you mean we're out of the playoffs by then and trading away an established player for draft picks.

Everyone contender for the division got better this off season. Arizona and Vancouver don't count.

Chia sucks. No playoffs once again.

Well once Sekera hits the LTIR...we have 9.5 million in cap space.

We will get relief, but it isn't quite that simple: https://www.coppernblue.com/2018/9/5...misinformation

If there is any chance that he might return this season, we have to be prepared to count that salary.

I'm still excited for this season. I am always excited until at least Halloween.

The good news is that if we suck it will finally be the end of Chia.

If we didn't have 97, I'd be out on the Oilers entirely. So when he demands a trade in a couple years, that will be my exit.

What's your take on how our bottom six are shaping up?

I did read that but I thought I read some comments after about some inaccuracies about the article. I will say that the LTIR is like reading swahili...

Congratulations to all who are still excited about this season. I will maintain my Tier Two status and tune in during the occasional game to check the score and maybe watch if the score is okay.

The NHL has really lost me over the last decade or so. Basic cable (and living on the West Coast) only allows me to see a handful of Oiler games each year on TV. I watch those. That is all. Can't stand watching the Canucks.
I wish good things for the Oilers this year. McDavid deserves better than this franchise gives him.

You mean the PTO's they are signing trying to replace Kassian who was overpaid like every other player signed by Chia? Who could have seen that coming?

Anyone know why the Oilers rookies aren't playing the Golden Bears any more? Is it a money thing? From the sounds of it, the rookie game against NAIT/McEwan last night was a waste of everybody's time.

Some sort of Katz feud with the University is what I saw on Twitter yesterday.

Tell me who will be in the bottom six and I will tell you what I think of it.

Will Lucic be in the bottom six? What about JP?

Obviously a bunch could change but I see it as:

    Khaira-Strome-Reider
    Upshall-Brodziak-Kassian

Well I sure don't see a lot of goals being scored by those 6.
