Agreed, but there is too much smoke coming from the igloo suggesting that there is significant issues behind the scenes. This is all making me very nervous and with Rhodes sticking around. Perhaps this is them weeding out the bad seeds, or perhaps we are truly destroying the BONE.

I'm still in the fire Rhodes camp but lets remember that Hunter and Hervey are good friends and will defend each other at every turn. I would also suggest that some of those fires were put out today with the coaching and football ops announcements.

Probably, as this probably means all of the crew that would have been loyal to Ed is now gone. Now we just need to see how good the new staff will be. I'm satisfied with the coaching appointments, but it remains to be seen how the rest of football ops is impacted.

Yes, I'm not going to go after Hervey for this. He's likely going to continue working with Hunter, and this statement would be a relationship builder for them.

If the Flintstones were to have a football coach character, it would likely look a lot like Lolley... for all that Danny Maciocia didn't look the part of a football coach, Coach Lolley oozes it from every pore of his being.

I know Coach Lolley to be a man of high character. While he had loyalty to Chris Jones, as did all of his coaches, he wasn't a fit for some of the "shenanigans" at times. He was brought into the fold in Hamilton under Austin, and promoted to DC there when they moved on from Reinebold. He was set to come back to Hamilton last year (2018), but insisted that he be able to keep William Fields as an assistant as a condition of his return. The Ticats not only clipped Fields (who you will notice is now a Defensive Assistant with us) but also informed him that they were bringing in Jerry Glanville to be a "co-defensive-coordinator". Coach was willing to work with Glanville, though how two coaches at that stage in their career would manage that split authority seems like a disaster waiting to happen, but he wasn't willing to not have his loyalty respected. If they weren't going to keep one assistant that he asked for, then what hope did he have to make a difference and have input given the unique situation there. Helluva lot of cooks in the kitchen.

I know that he was pursued by at least three teams last year, but even though the Ticats were not paying him, they were also not letting him sign elsewhere. The cost of principles I guess... but when you're at this stage of your career, a year of sitting on the couch is a pretty high price to pay for them.

Coach Lolley has ties to Edmonton area, and remains very close with his guys from 2015 - none more so than JC Sherritt. I see this move playing well for re-signing Aaron Grymes and given the respect that JC has for him, and the respect that others have for JC, I think it will be a tremendous move with loads of veteran buy-in. I could also see the potential for some Hamilton guys to potentially have interest in playing for him again.

Style-wise, he has the ability to mix it up. Think of a Chris Jones defence, and you've got a combination of 3-man rush and all-out blitzes. While Jones wants athletes at almost any cost, Lolley will demand character and accountability from his guys, while still allowing for some individualism - see Willis, Odell or Lacey, Deon. Speaking of Odell, he and Coach Lolley come from the same part of the world and Coach was more than familiar with him long before Odell set foot on Canadian soil.

Deep football roots, great football guy, high character. I have been really hoping that this was going to come about.
I’m curious—if Hammy wasn’t paying him, how could they prevent him from coaching elsewhere?

    He was still under contract.

Look at it through the lens of the James Wilder situation where he didn't want to play on the second year of his contract. If he held out, the Argos wouldn't have paid him, but he would have been prevented from signing elsewhere.

The main thing that makes it seem greasy by the Ticats is that we aren't used to seeing coaches held back that way. Even with contracts in place, it is common to see changes if there is a promotion or mutual parting of the ways. This one may have not been fully mutual, but it's hard to see it as afull on holdout either.

    Yeah, that's my feeling too.

Going to potentially be a very different receiving unit up here next season.

If we can keep hold of derel.... that’s something I think we’re def gonna lose Bryant ( he had multiple offers ) and just like walker with Tampa. I think Williams might be someone who returns around labour day

Wish him well... We're going to need the WR train to keep rolling here. A whole lot of them have been produced here in the last 2-3 years.

The DBs we've signing lately arent exactly giants, wonder how much input Lolley is having in the type of player he wants. Glass is 5'11 and Walker is a 5'9

Maybe he's asked for DBs who read the receiver's eyes, turn their heads, and play the ball. It doesn't matter how big you are if you can't do this, run into the receiver and give up a PI call.

    Phillip Lolley.
From on line ... Our Linebacker Coach from 2014-2015, who with almost all of the coaching staff followed CJ to Regina.
Later Lolley moved to Hamilton, where it looks like he had a number of defensive coaching jobs including DC.
Hope he works out again with us.
Does anyone have a sense of him?

Just from this article in the Journal, quoted by Hugoagogo. He has past connections to the Esks and to Edmonton. I'm cautiously optimistic.

He hired Chris Jones to work under him.. so you could say Jones learned his aggressive D from Lolley
