    Re: 2018 Offseason

What are people’s prediction for our starting secondary. Was a weak spot last season and wondering if anyone has any insight?

    CB - Orange and Colqohoun
DB - Hightower and ? possibly Unamba but my gut tells me new D coordinator will want to keep him as LB.
S - ? I would think this may be an International

Still think we could use another DB with experience.

    My 3 cents.....

What about Brandyn Thompson? Is he still in the picture?

Not sure where he will fit in, but I'm really curious to see what Money Hunter does in year two. He had a couple of bad moments last year, but I thought he really adapted well to the CFL field. He's only 23 and has potential. I think he could have a surprising year.
Regarding safety - I can't see us going international. I expect Hoover to be #1 on the depth chart.

As everyone has said over and over again, I think a new defensive scheme is going to work wonders for the young guys in the secondary.

I agree another veteran DB would be nice. As much as I would like to count on Arjen being a regular contributor, with his injury history I just don't see it happening.

I expect the same from Hunter actually and am looking forward to the camp battle at safety. I expect Hoover to start the year as our safety but for Bealieu (sp?) to take over a few games into the year. Another thing I'll be watching closely is the battle at left guard. Can one of our nationals push Bond out of the lineup?

Pretty sure a defensive scheme period is going to help the guys...

I wouldn't count on Colquhoun to start. He's capable but with his injury history, you can't count on him to be healthy.

Would be so nice for someone to step up and be better than average at the national S spot. You and a couple of others that were at last year's training camp believe that the talent is there possibly just experience and confidence were lacking before.

When Bond was in Winnipeg he was an absolute road grading monster. Don't know if it was the bad experience in Regina for him or being a bit more overweight or scheme but he seemed average to me here, especially for an import. If he plays at the level he did for the Bombers that left side of our Oline will really be something special.

    Re: 2018 Offseason

I agree that DB Hunter has potential and could take a big step forward this year. I also agree that Colqohoun is a bit of a concern. Injury history and ability to play through some pain is a cause for concern. I’m sure many will disagree with me but if Hoover is our starting S we are in trouble. We have had the weakest starting Safety for years and it has reared it’s ugly head many times. King is still unsigned and I would go as far as will not be picked up this season. I would also suggest that if Hoover released would also have a hard time finding employment, let alone a starting S position. If ratio allows I would love that position to be a huge upgrade in talent. Let those two second year players one more year of seasoning, then turn S back to national next season...

Hoover scared me last season. I actually think he would be a downgrade over King...

    Just my 3 cents...

Pretty sure King either retired or was released...agree with your concerns about Hoover, though.

Fair. Certainly having a National to slot in at RG (as was suggested earlier) would lift some of the pressure and allow us to consider going INT at Safety. I just think (what appears to be) going INT for all linebackers makes it tough. There will be a lot of interesting stuff to watch at training camp this year.

Its actually Jordan Beaulieu that I'm excited to see at safety, was a big hitter in college.

i was kind of hoping the esks would go after Chris Ackie for that spot but I'm assuming he was too expensive. Also I don't think he signed anywhere else so maybe he's trying to get an NFL shot. I likewise would prefer an Import at safety or even giving Beaulieu a shot over Hoover. Safety as well as the return man have really been weak spots for the Esks for what seems like forever.

Well we've gone from washed up 90s-00s rappers to washed up 80s rockers. Not sure if it's an improvement.
