    New JC Sherritt Appreciation Thread

With the surprising news that JCS is hanging them up, a major tip of the cap to a guy who gave it all and repped 47 very well in his time here.
I hit them as hard as I could on the mouth right from the start of the game so they were thinking this was going to be a long day. Sooner or later one of us had to quit. And it wasn't going to be me.

I could see a coaching career in his future.

    Re: JC Sherritt Appreciation Thread

I've never seen a little guy hit so friggin hard. JC totally continued the tradition of excellent MLB's to wear Green & Gold, and although I am sad he is walking away from playing at such a young age, I am happy he does so while relatively healthy. I have a feeling he's got some things in his future lined up already, but if he doesn't, I'm sure a future in coaching/football ops is there for him if he decides to follow that path.
Happy retirement, John Cody. Thank you for some amazing football. B.O.N.E.

B.O.N.E. - He will be sorely missed. At least through retirement we won't have to face him. Sucks when a young player decides to hang them up but I totally understand that it's hard on the body and sucks being an old football player that sounds like a box of Rice Krispies when you get out of bed in the morning. (assuming it's wear and tear related)
And there was much rejoicing... yaayyy....

He was a very good player for the Esks. Gave it everything he had on the field. Huge loss for the team not only for his playing ability but his leadership.

One of the smartest defensive players I've ever seen play in the CFL. Always seemed to be in the right position. Would make an excellent coach for sure. Congrats on a wonderful career and hope to see you up on the wall one day.

One of my favorite Esks. Much respect to #47. Hope to see him back with the EEFC as a coach one day.

One of the greats. I don't just mean by talent, but character. 20 years from now, he'll be one of the two or three players from this decade who will stand out in my memory.

This is a case where the current cap on the number of coaches is likely standing in the way to him moving on to that immediately. He may well want to take some time off, but with his familiarity with Lolley, it would have been a natural place to start as a defensive assistant. I think he is one of the few guys that would have no problem crossing the stripe to the other side immediately and having full respect from his team.

Was really looking forward to him playing with Gass on the staff... two guys that both had some commonalities in terms of overcoming odds, particularly early in their career.

What has not been paid a lot of due (I did see Boydo mention it I think) is that he retires a career Eskimo. Too often, we see a guy not ready to go out and getting traded or released - the cruel side of the business. Geroy, Pless, Stamps, and even Bowman last year. Starting and finishing a career with a single club is a rarity in pro sports today, and a testament to the loyalty that JC showed to the EEFC.

There are a lot of leaders and character guys in the game, but JC was likely in the top 1% on most guys' lists in that regard.

One of my favourite Eskimo memories is being on the sideline just a few yards away from the play when JC made the record breaking tackle in 2012. I went to the locker room sale that year and baught the jersey he was wearing, it remains my most prized Eskimo possession to this day.

Sad that we wont get to see JC play again, but happy hes officially a career Eskimo, and that hes left on his terms. As GWN alluded to, defensive assistant under Lolly would have been a real smooth transition this year had it not been for the new cap, too bad.

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
