I'd say Cooper is an upgrade at RB over Gable...
    Insert witty comment here...

Personally, I'd agree, although field conditions might factor into ability to make cuts on the turf. Long range weather forecast says wet snow in Montreal on Sunday. Thinking back to the 2016 East Final against Ottawa and how LaFrance plowed for over 150 yards against us in the snow, I'd do everything to have both backs ready to go if they are healthy.

Can we get both RB onto the game day roster? Gable should have fresh legs if healthy. We have started 8 Nationals last couple week....why cant we go with 7 nationals and get both onto the field for certain offensive packages....

    Signing confirmations

The Edmonton Eskimos have added the following players to the club’s practice roster:

American defensive lineman Jake Ceresna (#99)
American defensive back Keon Lyn (#37)
National offensive lineman DJ Sackey (#61)
American wide receiver Jamill Smith (#84)
National offensive lineman Josiah St. John (#63)
American running back TraVon Van (#32)

Van gives us a running back who can handle kick returns; wondering if Gable is still hurting?

Adding 6 guys at this point? Am I missing something or are we going to be making a few cuts to bring guys off of the 1 game or sending them to the 6?

    Re: 2019 Season Thread

Ceresna is a great add, but seems to be joining a position of strength already with the guys that started the year, plus Betts, plus Charles.

St. John and Sackey are interesting, being Canadian OL depth. I wonder if there's some injury trouble there among what is already in place.

Is there any cap savings to adding guys now that the regular season is done?

For some of them, this could just be a play to get the guys in for a week, give them a bit of cash in hopes they keep Edmonton in mind for future signings.

I can't wait to see who shows at practice today. Could be a pretty full field assuming the one-gamers rejoin the field with these new additions, and there are 8 six-gamers that are allowed to practice this week as well.

It's like a mini-training camp, but wrong time of year.

I want the Esks to field the absol-fuking-lotley best team they can. To me that means 2 RBS and Hunter sitting to start.

They probably could do it. But I imagine a scrimmage without pads would be tough. If all 46 roster players from last week, plus the 6 expected returnees from the 1 game, plus up to 8 6-game players eligible and the 10 practice roster players, they could dress up to 70 players for practice. Though I'm sure most of the 6-gamers won't return.

Well, we are definately the best (2nd and 3rd line) defensive line in the league.

    Sewell
    Boateng
    Ceresna
    Moore
    Betts
    Charles
    Usher
    Bazzie
    Vickers
    Joseph
    Mackie
    Marshall

Just lineup all twelve on the line and see if the QB has a chance to get it to someone before being turned into dust.

Introducing the new 12 man blitz scheme!!!

Speculation time, if Smith AND Van are in the lineup, who is coming off? Looking at the chart from the first Rider game, one obvious swap would be Jones for Van but who does Smith sub in for? Our internationals at the offensive skill positions are Daniels, Collins Jr, and Ellingson. No one there I see us sitting.

Yeah, I can't find a way to move them both in that wouldn't strip us of some key depth/special teams guys in other areas. Only way it happens is if one of Daniels or Collins is hurt and we aren't aware of it.
If the intent is to get both these guys in the game, it would also indicate that either Cooper or Gable will sit.
I have a feeling they are going to work both these guys hard at teams this week and the best of the two will draw in, not both of them.

The only way to get both Gable & Cooper on the roster might be to sit Walton, although he does a decent job on ST’s....

I totally agree with you on Cooper I think it's time to move on from Gable and that would save a chunk of dollars too for next year

I thought there was one time this year where we had both in the lineup but I can't remember which game it was. It would be interesting to take a look at the depth chart for that game and see how we made it work.

They likely don't expect a couple of those names back next year...
But Ceresna was great for us last year, so I am happy to have him back.

Does this mean that Colquhoun get the start at CB?

How we use the roster in terms of ratio will be a key factor in winning and losing this weekend< If Colquhoun is deemed ready to go, that should open the door to get both Gable and Cooper onto the roster.

IIRC, Glass got hurt returning a kick last week & didn’t resume those duties, but not sure if he continued on D or not. Colquhoun takes Hightower’s spot at CB....

That could be true writfiler, Here is the fine info from cfl.ca:

"Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Dyshawn Davis was fined for a high hit on Edmonton Eskimos defensive back Tyquwan Glass."

Must be on play 92, don't worry though the Eskimos did get a penalty on the play so it's all good.

Got to rid the game of those inconsequential holds, head shots though against non-QBs.... it's all good!

    Re: 2019 Season Thread

I hope the ratio looks likes this for Sunday:

    7 Nationals (not 8 Nationals):
-4 OL. With no Draheim I would continue with Saxfeild at LT.
    -1 WR - Smith
    -1 DE - Boetang
    -1 CB - Colquhoun

This would allow us to address the Safety position. Hoover has been serviciable, but this allows us to upgrade position IMHO.
This would allow us to get Gable and Cooper onto the game day roster.

My concern is that the EE will start 8 Nationals and tell us that was the best roster that they could feild.
