    Re: CFL Fantasy Football 2019

I made a monumental gaffe yesterday. I lost track of the time and didn't check the Depth Charts for the two Labour Day games until just minutes before 3:00 PM. I was then appalled to discover that the two players with which I'd filled my RB slots, Branden Burks and Cameron Marshall, would not be playing. I quickly deleted them and decided to move Johnny Augustine from my FLEX pick to a RB pick so I'd have more flexibility when it came to refilling my FLEX slot. But like I say, I'd lost track of the time. The TSN Fantasy program allowed me to delete Johnny Augustine but in the five to ten seconds it took me to click his name into a RB slot, the clock hit 3:00 PM and I was frozen from re-adding Johnny Augustine's name!

Augustine ended up getting 14.5 Fantasy points.

So to make a long story short, after the Three Stooges technical blunders I pulled with my Fantasy lineup just prior to the game in Regina yesterday, I now really need Trevor Harris to put on an air show versus the Stampeders today. I need 35 points in total from the RB and WR I ended up having to pick because of my blunder or I'll have lost out and thus be contemplating hurling myself from my front porch onto the garden below.

    Re: CFL Fantasy Football 2019

So because I fell asleep on the Depth Charts and then bungled Johnny Augustine right out of my lineup at game time, I ended up with Anthony Coombs and Ricky Collins who got me a grand total of 13.3 Fantasy points. The Johnny Augustine and Shaquille Evans picks I would have had in place of those would have yielded 34.6 points. My Three Stooges Act therefore cost me 21.3 points.

Worse yet every single game went against my teams.

I've been almost too beaten down since Monday to make this week's Fantasy picks.

Was that meant to nearly give me a heart attack? Because it nearly did!

I do not understand how the defensive totals work. Montreal allows 16 points and winds up with 3 points. Last week I had the Argos who allowed 38 points and wound up with 9 points?!?

I think there is too much emphasis on "the big play" for defenses. I think if you hold the opposition to less than 20 points, you should be rewarded with at least 10 points on defense.

    DEFENSE :
    Sacks :
    1 point
    Interceptions :
    2 points
    Fumbles Recovered :
    2 points
    Safeties :
    2 points
    Points Allowed : 0
    10 points
    Points Allowed : 1-6
    7 points
    Points Allowed : 7-13
    4 points
    Points Allowed : 14-20
    1 point
    Points Allowed : 21-27
    0 points
    Points Allowed : 28-34
    -1 points
    Points Allowed : 35+
    -4 points

I am pretty sure that last season it was more coordinated to point totals was it not? I never did see this breakdown so that will be good to know moving forward...

The same points scheme was used for Defense last year and the year before.

    Hmm....well I don't know.

I also don't wanna know what the Eskimos defense wound up costing people?

I'm with you on that. Only 10 points for a D shutting out the opposition??? How often does that happen in the CFL, I'd say less than once a year on average. Should be worth 30 points IMO. Anyways, this is why I never bother to waste money on a defense, the dollars to points ratio is way to far off to bother.

You could change tactics & choose 6 players and no D. The D points emphasize the wrong things, as has been mentioned and, therefore, it rnds up being a crapshoot on a week-to-week basis for fantasy purposes..at least for this fantasy pool....but I’m on a fantasy LOA this year, so take anything I say with a grain of salt!!.

Indeed. Why did you give up after just two weeks? Sure your scores were forgettable, but two years ago I stumbled out of the gate with a score of 40 and ended up topping the 1050 Toronto sub-League among others.

The statistical analysis I've done in the past doesn't confirm your thesis to be the case.

Moreover Western Willy, the top player, selects a Defence every week.

2nd place player, Bayman231 never does. So a defense isn't required to be a top player.

Everyone has their own fantasy strategy, so I'm not saying that anyone is right or wrong. Do whatever works for you. My belief is this, the drop in production you get from having to take a low end receiver vs a mid to high tier receiver is on average more than what you would get from a defense. IMO, the point per catch rule makes receiver the most valuable fantasy position and I'm not willing to gamble that a defense is going to get 4 sacks, a fumble recovery, and give up less than 20 points (aka a damn good night for a D) just to get me the same amount of points a receiver can get from catching 4 balls for 30 yards (aka a very pedestrian night for a mid to high tier receiver).

Interesting that I've moved up smartly in the Fantasy standings since my first cataract surgery on August 22nd! Being distracted by real life events and consequently doing less "analysis" of boxscores and such may have helped.

So I've managed to claw my way to the top of the massive 434 participant One Empire league and the 335 participant TSN 1260 Edmonton league. The trick now will be to stay there and there's no guaranty of that.

Well I've made it to #17 overall with four weeks to go.

I'm confident of nothing though from here on to the end of the season. Every week I'm racked with doubts.

Despite picking two Stampeder receivers who ended up underperforming, I finished with a very decent 97.2 points last week and moved up to #13 overall.

Here are Jamie Nye's picks for Week 19:

Toughest time of the year for fantasy football as some teams start to have nothing to play for. Wish I had known that Stanback was only going to play the first half and be rested the second half even though the score was close.

Yeah, it's really setting up weird now. Assuming Calgary completes the sweep on Friday, we'll basically know all of the playoff matchups with as many as 7 straight meaningless games to finish up the schedule. Yeah, Saskatchewan will still push in our game this weekend for the faint hope of winning the west, but let's face it, if Calgary needs to win to keep 1st against BC in the final week, they'll mop the floor with them.

It will be interesting to see how Saskatchewan's going to approach this as Winnipeg gets the final week bye, so they'll be well rested for the semi-final. Does Saskatchewan go all-out for a faint hope of getting first, or try to find some rest, particularly since their last bye was mid-September.

Of course, if Winnipeg wins on Friday, then I expect to a very amped Saskatchewan team that knows they can control their fate to get first.

Ugh, never even thought of that. All the more reason to cheer for the Bombers!

I aim to never miss a CFL game (or at least pvr it) but not sure I can stomach that many meaningless games in a row!

Just thought I'd mention that AJ Ouillette is listed as the starter (and only halfback) for the Argos roster this weekend.
Thought I'd mention if anyone is looking for a min. cost roster add. I'm taking him and Cooper as my RB's this weekend, so I can spend more money on the aerial game.

Took 2nd place in our league with 1944 points this year. I had a good start, really fell off a bit in the middle of the year, but finished strong.

Looking forward to the playoff league!

If you go into the league standings, there are tabs at the top for playoffs and season.
