That wasn’t secret. This D is aggressive. Bene ran a passive zone D.

They call a penalty on a guy on the sideline?!

    Seriously, Proulx.

    - - - Updated - - -

Only 42 yards of offense for B.C. since the first quarter.

That's unbelievably bad - no matter who your QB is.

The commish needs to sit and watch a game on tsn. There is no way this is the product the cfl wants to produce. Literally phantom ref calls. No replays. Itís awful.

    Turnover on downs.

What's the Esks record for sacks in a game?

Players in this league expend too much effort trying to get even; regardless of the score. So much for it being a team game.

As I called it earlier but got a rebuttal... Edwards with a penalty tonight.

And then an utter display of scum as Harris tried to shake his hand.

Re: Eskimos vs. Lions; The Return of Mike

Wow, the Esks D came to ball tonight. Only 157 yards for BC and most came on the first couple drives when the Esks kept taking stupid penalties.

Offence had a slow start but they are just relentless once they get in a groove. No sacks against again and again I donít even remember Harris taking any hits.

Edwards, once a jackass, always a jackass.

On the negative side, we took 155 yards in penalties. We can argue the validity of some of the calls all we want, but itís too much and it has to stop,

Iím also glad to see the CFL is committed to protecting Reilly just like they did when he was an Eskimo.....

Overall, Iím thrilled. The offence systemically wore B.C. down. Short passes, a steady diet of Gable... everything Iíve been asking for for the past few years. And defensively, the pressure was outstanding and there were some really athletic knockdowns and plays in the secondary. A great game called by Lolley. As far as areas for improvement, some of the coverage teams could be tightened up and some of those flags could kill them - but then, who knows what a penalty is?

Itís a good sign that this was an anticipated ďstatementĒ game and they showed up. I think it shows thereís something to the work the Esks did on locker room and team aspect. After the first, they looked organized and prepared. B.C. looked anything but... though it is still early. That was the Reilly we saw last year, I thought, and he didnít have much magic. His line didnít help much, but maybe thatís more on scheme and not adjusting.

While thereís a long way to go, I feel safe in saying I really like the way this team has come together and the management, coaches and leadership deserve some credit. Hopefully that quiets the naysayers for a bit.

Chris Edwards will be cut within 4 weeks and replaced by a LB off the Eskimos practice roster.

DB Johnson I really like. All over the field. Great closing speed on the ball and plays with some swagger.
LB Diggs in just two games as a CFL rookie looks like quite a find. BS found a good one....
DL was a absolute handful tonight. Helps when we sending LB/DB on blitzes. Love Coach Lolley aggressiveness so far compared to the rush 3....
Harris outplayed Harris and Mass out coached Claybrooks...

    My 3 cents...

More like off-season signings but point understood. Still, it's a long season.

Great start by the Esks. I really like this new look team!

I was frustrated with the penalties as well but which ones do you think weren't warranted? The head is off limits, especially the QBs. The quicker the Esks learn that and adjust the better. It's going to be called.

Nick Usher had a hell of a game tonight. He was a beast. The whole D line were beasts all game.

Greg Ellingson, this was your week to shine and you did. YAC yards are his thing and he did it well all night long.

Harris settled down and played well after a tough 1st quarter. His release is so quick he barely had any pressure on him all night long.

Happy with the win but as some have said need to clean up the penalties. But when you play aggressive sometimes those penalties occur.

Saw it on twitter and went and verified it.

After the Lions made it 17-3 early in the 2nd quarter, the Esks held them to MINUS 2 net yards the remainder of the game.

5 years Mike takes a beating in Eskimos silks, and now if you breathe hard in his direction it is RTP?

Someone tell me again it isn't a League vs. Eskimos thing.

Just got back from the game and had a few brews so pardon the typonese.
Nick Usher is a beast he's made Bazzie expendable, good footwork and a great motor.
Special teams wasn't amazing but it was consistent in all areas.
So far I would say Harris>Reilly.
    I really dislike Andre Proulx
The defence had a plan tonight blitz and blitz more on Reilly and even though they took a couple somewhat questionable penalties doing so they never stopped their plan. That's leadership.
Tevaun Smith is going to be an amazing receiver in this league

Five RTP penalties against the Esks tonight. That's gotta be some kind of record.

I said the biggest upgrade we made all off season was at D coordinator. Look what happens when you put athletes in a position to make plays instead of hoping for mistakes, while keeping everything in front of you.

lolley is my hero. Haven t seen that kind of pressure in years

Still mad at Mike for leaving , but I really am thinking Harris is better

Is BC ‘S Oline terrible or does mike not get the ball off fast enough ?

I assume other teams will find ways to beat this amazing pressure we are getting but for now it’s very fun to watch!

Didn't do his reputation any favours tonight. I try to not judge too harshly in a moment of frustration, but that looked like some serious jackass behaviour at the end. Be better.

If there are any others, I think the defensive coaching staff are worthy. While Lolley will get the headlines (deservedly), D-Max, Coach Miles, and all of the defensive assistants had their guys prepared. This was the defensive equivalent of running on a team even when they know you're bringing it. BC seemed to have no schematic answer to the constant pressure. Screens, draws, double TE, play action, hot reads, rolling out - nothing much seemed to counter the Esks other than their own mistakes that led to penalties. The 2nd one on Boateng was a little ticky-tack, but he did hit the helmet with his hand. Just seems wrong for that to be the same penalty as the late helmet hit from Usher.

Amazing to be accomplishing this with the IR we already have but no reason to suspect it grows tonight at this point.

Maas and Maksymic called a very nice game offensively, and kudos to the Esks for hanging in, sticking to and trusting the game plan.

I thought the penalties, for the most part, we're more aggression than discipline. Still have to cut them back and find the balance where they're playing with an edge but not extending drives.

Good on Larry Dean for calling the defence together, talking to them and turning the page. Seemed to be a turning point I thought.

Re: Eskimos vs. Lions; The Return of Mike

It's amazing how much better a young secondary looks when they're encouraged to play aggressively, press receivers, and use their athleticism to make plays. Benevides costed this team at least 1 Grey Cup in the last 3 years.

I thought the D took this one personally towards Mike and I loved every second of it. I have zero respect for the decision that Mike made and the way he strung the Eskimos along for a full calendar year. Sewell set the tone this week when he talked about how you have to break a competitor like Mike Reilly. They broke him tonight. Good.

And also, it feels amazing to have a QB who can make pre-snap reads and get the ball out of his hands quickly. Trevor Harris was a surgeon again tonight.
