At least he thinks winning is important for a professional team and I sincerely hope he doesn't think he is bigger than the franchise.
Succeeding on AND off the field is just another way of saying that winning alone is not enough. People want to/choose to, remember whatever spin appeals to them I guess.

I'm glad we've moved on from Rhodes, and I'm also glad that we have acknowledgement from the new guy that the President has to be accountable for both on the field and off the field performance.

Exactly what the CFL needs to do. The world has changed. The Esks and the CFL have missed a whole generation of fans. The days of just having a game on and people showing up just because are long gone.

The Oilers are the big dog in town and they don't have to do a lot for people to just come, I think they do a better job than the Esks. As an example, the Oilers buy billboard space in Red Deer. You see nothing from the Esks.
Point taken, but why would the Esks exert much effort in marketing in Red Deer? You've already spoken, as a passionate fan that was invested and in the habit of making the sacrifices necessary to attend, that the obstacles are too high and the rewards too low to still attend. I'd much rather see them spend their marketing dollars targeting geographic regions where they are more likely to face fewer barriers and get better returns.

Presson, when he found out Turner was in Edmonton, apparently asked the Esks not to speak to him about his candidacy. Wanted to get or lose the job on his own merits. Seems to downplay the ties, but I had noted the same thing you did as a logical conclusion. He went on to say that he knew Turner well from their two years working together in AZ, but hadn't spoken to him in years, and wasn't aware he was in Edmonton until after this process started.

There are rumours starting to leak that the first choice had been TSN's VP and executive producer, Paul Graham, an Edmonton native, but that they couldn't come to financial terms. Don't know if it's true or speculation. Would have been a great hire if we'd landed him - over 40 years exp in the CFL game, broadcasting savvy, Edmonton ties, credible resume, CFHOF inductee and Hugh Campbell Leadership Award winner.

I'm all for giving this guy a chance. I just hope that he gets to define himself prior to a section of the fans jumping on one trait or quote and forever identifying him by that regardless of accomplishments that come after.

The afl is more offence/ pass driven.. the ifl is usually lower scoring and has better defence. still offence driven but more like offences we see watching a regular game of football.

I prefer the ifl to afl to watch and the top tier markets like Arizona and Iowa and Sioux Falls have great teams and great product
Also, the rebound nets that you see in the Arena League you won't see in any other indoor league. The AFL has the exclusive patent on those.

He's not Wad, but at least he has a football background.

Yeah as good as the article was...and there were a lot of good ideas Terry still had to be Terry...LOL

While I agree with a lot of the article, I find it really ironic that Jones calls out mistakes in the media guide when his own columns and writings are chock-full of factual errors.

He insisted - for over half the 2015 season - that the Esks would play in the final game in Taylor Field history at the end of that year. Only problem was, Saskatchewan moved into their new stadium at the beginning of 2017, not 2016. (One of many: https://edmontonsun.com/2015/08/01/j...5-d6fbe0534e23)

In the Epic Legacy book - the $250 high-gloss souvenir of everything Eskimo that Rhodes hired him to write - #27 Mobley's first name above his picture is spelled Signor. And the 2015 "All-Time Results" listed the 45-31 win over Calgary as the Division Semi-Final, and the 26-20 win over Ottawa as the Division Final. Just off of two random pages! (At least, this is in the flip book sample from the team website - I refuse to shell out $250 for something so inaccurate, especially when we have 56Parkies on here.)

I enjoy his stories on the podcast, and he's obviously been everywhere and seen everything in his career, but I really wish he'd fact-check his stuff, or have someone else do it. All those memories obviously get in the way of each other.

Interesting. I've always thought that to be the correct spelling as is was commonly spelled that way from my recollection. Happy to learn otherwise.

Yes. Most definitely the correct spelling is Singor, as per his autograph and (though it's not always the best source) his Wikipedia page.

I’ve heard him do a few interviews now, and I’m really liking his initial visions and philosophies. I really hope he can help turn this whole thing around, and hopefully make it more affordable. And from his interview yesterday morning on CHED, might he have been hinting at the fire truck making its return??

Said for years, they should reword that whole truck into a fire breathing, air cannon football shooting, strobe and siren beast that other teams dread, and have it booked all year long at community events all over central &northern AB.

I hit them as hard as I could on the mouth right from the start of the game so they were thinking this was going to be a long day. Sooner or later one of us had to quit. And it wasn't going to be me.

Well, no one can call that version a clown car. I wonder if the idea you suggest was considered.
