Best thing about this is he was my #1 choice.
2nd best thing about this is it makes Dave Campbell look utterly stoooopid.

Well i was one of the ones who did not want to fire Maas. I was concerned whoever was hired to replace him would be inferior.

I thought there were about 5 people on earth who would be a better coach.

Milanovich is one of them. If this is true, i will have to congratulate Brock for an excellent hire.

now if he can bring in some good db's and re - sign our best free agents i will be happy.

This is soooo much better than Campbell or keeping Maas! Christmas came early for Eskimos fans!

But I maintain that there was no logical way to predict this as a likely or even possible outcome, especially after rumours of Milanovich’s potential interest were immediately shot down. I’m more than happy to have been wrong though.

I responded to him and said “glad your sources were wrong on this one”

And he said “my sources were correct. Before today’s news.”

Acting as if this was a one day process.

I like this hire...although his record in Toronto was not stellar, I like what he brings to the team from an offensive standpoint. It will be interesting to see how many of the assistants get offered jobs (other than Lolley who is still under contract)

To me it was never about what I accomplished on the football field, it was about the way I played the game.

As much as people like to rip on Campbell he is pretty well connected when it comes to the Esks, I suspect something must have changed between now and a couple weeks ago when the Esks initially reached out to Milanovich.

I hope he and Lolly get along because this goes along way to keeping our offence in tact so if we can continue to build on Lollys system as well we’ll be in good shape.

I don't think the team he had in Toronto roster wise was that good. He had Ricky Ray so that propped it up a bit. Just goes to show that if your roster isn't good, a coach can only do so much. I like the hire but won't mean much unless the Esks roster is better. Milanovich could have been the coach this past year and I don't think it would have made much of a difference.
Blindly accept whatever they do and if it doesn't work out, I guess there's always next year.

Re: Scott Milanovich to be the next Head Coach

So, riddle me this: We're all ecstatic about Milanovich, but looking at his CFL record, he was 43-47 and the one year he won in Toronto, his first year, was a 9-9 team that peaked in the playoffs to win a Grey Cup. Aside from that one ring, which Campbell also has, it seems like he shares some of the qualities others were knocked for.

So what is it we like about him more than, say, Bellefeuille, who had a similar winning percentage in the East? Is it that he spent more time as a co-ordinator or a head coach? Is it his style of offence or his mannerisms on the sidelines? Is it the fact he went off to the NFL?

I always thought Jason held back his O a bit by dressing an extra import Dlinemen when we could have added an extra import receiver or RB instead of the DE that usually played .

He did win a grey cup in his first year, one year removed from a 4th place 6-12 season the year before. Granted that was propped up by bringing in Ricky Ray.

Looking at his coaching staff in his time in Toronto is pretty much a who's who of current CFL coaching talent. So it will be interesting to see how much of his success in Toronto was a great supporting coaching staff, or how much of the current successful coaches in the CFL can be attributed to what they learned under him as a coach.

I remember making the comment about trying to find a Hufnagel type to really bring this team along for the long haul. With the varied experience that Milanovich has had over his career, could this line up to be a similar hire? Both were QBs, both had exprience in all the major american football leagues, both won a Grey Cup in their first CFL season as head coach.

Granted he's still a bit earlier in his career than Hufnagel was (46 years old vs. 57 years old and 16 years coaching experience vs. 20 years coaching experience), but we can hope.

Ricky Ray said Milanovich was one of the best coaches he's ever played for. Does RR come here as a QB coach under Milanovich?

Agreed when it comes to the talent the Argos had...I am eager to see what kind of offense he brings in and how long it will take for the players to all get on the same page?

Re: Scott Milanovich to be the next Head Coach

Milanovich gave Jason Mass his first coaching job - QB coach with the Argos.

I imagine he'd be inclined to keep Lolley and the defensive staff intact.

On the offensive side, some past coaches Milanovich has had on his staff:
Brian Chiu - OL (a disaster last year in BC)
Anthony Ierulllo - RB / ST (ST assistant in BC last year)
Kez McCorvey - WR (left Edmonton as WR coach to take a job in NCAA a couple years ago)
Steve McAdoo - OL (was OC past number of years in Sask and previously EDM)
Marcus Brady - OC (left to NFL)

Milanovich is a very good hire, full stop.

Curious to see how they fill out the rest of the staff.

I believe Jon Himebauch could have been another. Always thought Himebauch was a good Oline coach. Moves around a lot though. Believe he is with Trestman and Elizondo in Tampa Bay though.

Great hire. I threw out Trestman and Millanovich as possible candidates but a I mentioned in the post I was throwing spaghetti against the wall. Didn't think he would actually come here. BS just gave himself the best chance of surviving past next season. Doesn't mean he will but he gave himself a legit chance IMO.
