Maybe TurfToe just found a good bottle of Cabo?
I hit them as hard as I could on the mouth right from the start of the game so they were thinking this was going to be a long day. Sooner or later one of us had to quit. And it wasn't going to be me.

I would rather see Flutie go to Calgary and have a gold #27 imprinted on the side of his helmet ...

I think it would look much better on Burris.

I saw Flutie in San Diego this year. He still has the magic.

Somebody pick me up off the floor. This can't be happening. I'm in a holosuite being run by a demented Esksfans moderator

Can you imagine the odds you would have gotten only several weeks ago of the Esks' two top active QBs heading into the season being Khari Jones and Doug Flutie?!

    I agree...
The only way I would accept Flutie here is if Jason Maas is severely hurt or (God help us) seriously contemplating retirement due to his injury. With Maas, and a veteran back-up in Khari Jones on the roster, why complicate matters more by bringing in Flutie? Focus on other areas of the team when it comes to depth. The goal in Edmonton is to win Grey Cups, not bring in old superstars to help promote the game.

There are just some players I do not see as Eskimos, and Flutie is one of them (I'm clearly not a fan of his).

I'm sort of with you on that, but to play devil's advocate for a moment, could Hugh afford another potential sub-par season this year? Could be a way to keep the fans interested?

Re: Esks to play magic Flutie?

If this is really happening (and that's a monumental IF), I think it'd be a sign that things are pretty bad with Maas. Under this scenario, maybe the Esks aren't confident that he can play at all this year.

On the other hand, since they'd be looking at veteran replacements, maybe they're looking for a short-term fix until Maas can return safely in 2006.

I was never a fan of his ... until he went back to the NFL.

I have to admit it was due to the fact that he was a big thorn in the side of the Esks while he was up here.

I truly enjoyed seeing him "freeze up" during the 1993(?) Western Final.

Jed did say last night that things weren't looking good with JM. I have word today he's being re-evaluated but nothing else. Gizfan2 has to break out the thumbscrews on his g/f's buddy.

Maybe I live too far south of Edmonton, but the impression down here is that Edmonton has a very solid loyal fan base, and the organization is ALWAYS a Grey Cup contender.

The secondary and O-line weakened the team last year, not the quarterbacking.

    What are your thoughts?

Quarterbacking IS in question now with Maas' health.

Until there is an OFFICIAL announcement regarding Maas's status for the start of the season, my thinking is he is going to play this year.

Well, that is the beauty of this board. People know people and hear things and bring them forward. Membership has its privillages if I may steal a catch phrase.

We have been given a heads up on a few stories. But admittedly have been burned a couple of times as well.

I am just hoping for Maas. I like the guy. He is good for the Eskimos. He's got loyalty, guts, and talent, and that is the essence of what being an Eskimo is all about.

    Thanks,

I concur, so far we have some rumour....but it is from some very reliable sources.....IMO our best scenario is that JM's shoulder acted up a little during physio and he'll be fine to start the season.

Lord help us though if it's not the case.....Jed did say that it didn't look good, but until we hear more...... all we can really do is hope for the best case scenario in terms of what's best for the team

Most should be happy, I'd take Maas in his prime above an over the hill ex all-star. This just doesnt seem legit, think about it, Maas would for sure demand a trade or at the very least not re-sign next year, and that leaves you with an ancient Doug Flutie, and a guy who doesnt have many years left in Khari Jones. It just makes no sense which is why I dont believe it.

I think it makes sense, as a one-year replacement. If Maas is down for all or a good part of the year, Flutie might just fit the bill for 2005, until Maas returns.

Just came back from seeing the boys at the stadium again.. Saw Jason again... he (Jason) went to the doctor to have his shoulder looked at this morning--Jason's shoulder looks pretty bad.. I guess he is due to undergo labrum surgery (scope) on his throwing arm within the next few days.. The mood is pretty glum down there right now..

From what the orthopod says it looks like a tear.

    That is 'bad news'...

You have to remember that even if the rehab had gone according to schedule, he would have had a limited amount of throwing time prior to the opening of training camp. That being said, the Jones signing is 'FREAKING' huge now...

To me it was never about what I accomplished on the football field, it was about the way I played the game.
